A Viennese woman (77) was the victim of a robbery twice: first in the supermarket and then on the way to the lost and found service – injured!
For this 77-year-old retiree from Liesing, her subjective sense of security has deteriorated dramatically in a short time. “Until now I have known no fear, but now I am afraid,” she explains in the interview with “Krone”. What happened?
Her wallet was stolen while shopping at the supermarket, but cleared away at the lost and found office. On the way, the pensioner was brutally attacked and ended up in hospital. Victim twice in a row.
But first things first
Gerlinde K. (name changed by the editors) goes shopping, connected to a 24-hour EGK that day for health reasons. On the way home she notices: “My wallet is gone. So I went back, but it quickly became clear that it had probably been stolen while I was cleaning out the cart,” she says. Annoying, but unfortunately common in a big city like Vienna. She blocked the cards.
At the end of February, she received a letter from the lost and found office: the wallet had been found, unsurprisingly without any cash inside. “So I went to pick him up in Siebenbrunnenfeldgasse.” And so it happened that Gerlinde K. went from victim number one to victim number two: because on her way to the office to pick up her stolen wallet, she got caught in the clutches of a robber.
Handbag torn off
“I carried my handbag on my left side and kept the straps short so I could fit comfortably in the loops,” says the 77-year-old. “Then I saw a shadow next to me on the left. Suddenly someone takes my bag from me.” Desperately, the pensioner clings to the belt until it breaks, the robber uses even more violence – and Gerlinde K. falls to the ground with full force: “I always have help, called for help , I screamed with all my heart.
Serious injury
Passersby help her, rescue and police arrive. Perpetrator number two has the keys and address through the stolen bag. She herself is seriously injured, with a broken shoulder. The arm is in a sling and cannot move. She is in severe pain.
The result: Stolen wallet with approximately 150 euros in contents. Stolen handbag – pretty much the same again. Costs for key service and new lock: 655 euros.
And a traumatized pensioner.
