Three knife murders in the past 19 hours are shaking the whole of Austria. Four people were killed. Two cases occurred in Vienna and one case in Upper Austria. The “Krone” has now summarized all the new details about the terrible bloody acts.
The first bloody act causes a deep shock in the quiet settlement in the south of Vienna. The emergency services arrived with a large contingent on the Wagner-Schönkirch-Gasse in Liesing on Thursday afternoon and the rescue helicopter landed in a meadow. The alarm was preceded by the discovery of a cryptically worded suicide note. “It makes no sense anymore,” it is written there, signed by Peter M. and his Alina. But the document raises questions.
Money problems as Motiv?
Almost a month ago the couple moved to a beautiful semi-detached house – purchase price: almost a million euros! Money that M. apparently could not raise. A meeting with the seller should have taken place on site on Thursday afternoon. But that didn’t happen anymore. The 63-year-old came up with a diabolical plan. He left the letter in a car and informed his cousin. He then grabbed a kitchen knife and killed his 34-year-old partner. However, he failed in his attempt to take his own life. The retired and passionate poker player was found seriously injured next to the body of the 34-year-old Romanian.
The fire brigade lifted the injured from the first floor
It took more than an hour before the Viennese could be stabilized by the emergency doctor and brought into the helicopter through a window on the first floor. However, all help came too late for his Alina. It was initially completely unclear whether the relatively young woman was aware of the man’s (suicidal) thoughts. She had also signed the letter, but reports said her command of the German language was limited.
This is the crime scene in Vienna-Liesing:
“Dog was completely drenched in blood”
“When the fire brigade gained access to the house, the neighbour’s dog came towards me. He was completely drenched in blood,” says Harry Hochmeister during an on-site inspection with “Krone”. The female Shih Tzu was handed over to animal control. “We practically live in the same house. It’s unbelievable what happened here.” M., father of an adult son, is now struggling with death in the general hospital. Grandmaster: “It proves itself time and time again: you just can’t see into people.”
Second murder case in Vienna
The second murder case in Vienna took place in Leopoldstadt. A young woman collapses sobbing; five strong men try to support her and place her on a chair just in front of the police tape. But it’s clearly impossible to calm her down. “That’s the daughter,” said shocked “spectators” who gathered en masse this Friday in front of the entrance gate of the residential building at Mexicoplatz 20 in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. Julia (name changed) and her two brothers lost both parents in one fell swoop this October morning.
Her own father is said to have slaughtered the mother of the three adult children with numerous stab wounds in the family apartment and then committed suicide. It was 9:18 am when the Vienna police received the emergency call. Concerned relatives chose him after the 54-year-old Austrian with Turkish roots could not be reached. Shortly afterwards, officers from the WEGA special unit stormed the apartment and made the terrible discovery.
The forensic investigation in Vienna-Leopoldstadt is still in full swing:
Murder suspect threw himself from the second floor
The woman lay covered in blood on the floor in front of an open window on the second floor. Next to her is a kitchen knife and the family cat. The search for the husband (64) was quickly over: a look down into the courtyard brought certainty. The murder suspect lay lifeless on the cold asphalt. “The emergency doctors tried to resuscitate him,” said a neighbor. But it was in vain.
“Wanted a divorce”
There was a lot of speculation yesterday about why the mother of three ultimately had to die. The 54-year-old was still working, while her husband, who was ten years older than her, is said to have spent his retirement walking in the park at Mexico Square. “She wanted to divorce him,” some say – her death sentence? The suicide note written in Turkish is intended to provide clarity. “I can’t imagine what made Metin do this,” says a friend sadly. “I am speechless.”
Third murder case in Upper Austria
The third murder drama took place in Upper Austria. The tranquil Geretsberg in the Innviertel was the scene of the gruesome bloodshed on Thursday evening. A 24-year-old nurse – actually a man who defines himself as a woman – from Slovakia allegedly stabbed an 82-year-old she had been caring for for a long time.
“Evil, blood, police”
“The autopsy showed that the victim had suffered four to five stab wounds. The stitches were in the upper body and head. The man bled to death internally,” says Alois Eber of the Ried public prosecutor’s office. Creepy detail: not just one knife was used, but two. The victim Franz S. is disabled and was apparently in his nursing bed when the crime took place. After the crime, the nurse called the man’s stepdaughter and allegedly muttered “evil, blood, police” into the phone.
Background still unclear
For the time being, we can only speculate about the background of the crime. “After the crime, the suspect was very aggressive and completely confused,” Ebner said. It is certain that the suspected perpetrator was heavily drunk. “Your blood is also tested for drugs,” the prosecutor explains.
The shock after the crime runs deep in Geretsberg. “Why Franz in particular?” No one can explain that. “He was always a pleasant and very calm man. His partner died years ago, her two children took care of him,” Mayor Johann Brunnthaler said after the third tragic event in just a few weeks. Last week, a 27-year-old resident of the community died in a work accident, and a month ago another person was also killed in a car accident.
