Brutal scenes took place in a car workshop in the viaduct arches of Innsbruck on Friday morning: a man and a woman marched into the shop and attacked the owner (27) with a baseball bat and a hammer. The police were able to arrest the suspects. A Taser was also used during the arrest.
According to police, the attack took place late in the morning. Two Austrians, a man (31) and a woman (34), entered the workshop around 11:30 am and initially attacked the owner, who was the only one present there, with a baseball bat. The 27-year-old fought back. A fight broke out, with the two attackers attacking the local man with a hammer and threatening him with a knife.
Eventually the local man managed to escape from the workshop. He called for help and two neighbors came running. The two attackers fled. Close behind, however, was the workshop owner, who kept in touch with the police by telephone.
Only the Taser could overpower the suspect
Two officers from PI Saggen were then able to catch the suspected perpetrators in the underground parking garage of a supermarket. The 31-year-old had a knife in his hand, his companion brandished an iron bar more than 50cm long. Although the two police officers had drawn their service weapons, the two would not drop their weapons and repeatedly threatened the officers.
It was only when the Rapid Intervention Group (SIG) intervened and tasered the man that the 31-year-old could at least be arrested. As more and more police patrols arrived to provide reinforcements, the woman also dropped her iron bar and was arrested.
The police started an investigation
Now it is the turn of the State Criminal Investigation Department. The two suspects are being held in the police station where they are being interrogated.
The workshop owner suffered minor injuries in the attack and had to be treated as an outpatient at the Innsbruck clinic.
