In Vienna, unemployment has risen again compared to the previous year. The Viennese AMS boss is still optimistic about the future and at the same time hopes for a mild winter.
The negative trend in the domestic labor market that has been going on since April continues. At the end of September, 320,760 people were registered as unemployed or in training, which is 14,601 people or 4.8 percent more than around the same time last year. As a result, the unemployment rate rose by 0.3 percentage points to 5.9 percent. What is striking: more than a third of all unemployed people live in Vienna. Unemployment in the federal capital currently stands at 10.3 percent, almost twice as high as the Austrian average (5.9 percent). But what are the reasons for this?
