Lehendakari Urkullu was present at the commissioning of the first electrolyzer installed at the Muskiz refinery, a facility with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts (MW).
This Monday, Petronor inaugurated its first electrolyzer in Euskadi installation with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts (MW). located in the Muskiz industrial complex, in the Petronor refinery, where the multinational Repsol will produce renewable hydrogen.
Immediately investment has this facility of 11 million euros capacity to generate 350 tons of renewable hydrogen per year for industrial use, mainly in the refinery, as raw material for the manufacture of products with a lower CO2 footprint.
The electrolyzer also supplies renewable hydrogen to the Abanto Zierbena Technology Park, located 1.5 kilometers from Muskiz, where Petronor’s new offices are located, where it is used to power buses and heavy transport.
To this end, Repsol and the Basque Energy Agency have established there the first hydroline station, that is, hydrogen supplier, in the Basque Autonomous Community, which obtains hydrogen from the Petronor electrolyzer through a hydroduct, installed by Nortegas.
Petronor has highlighted that it is the first production of renewable hydrogen with European technology. “Today we inaugurated the 2.5 MW electrolyzer, which in addition to the production of renewable hydrogen, has allowed us to follow a hard and positive learning path thanks to the advantage of having a solid techno-industrial culture in our environment and a human team that responded with excellent technical and iron will,” said Petronor President Emiliano López Atxurra.
“(The electrolyzer) should be a catalyst that promotes innovation and the transformation of European industry and provides opportunities for the next generations,” said Repsol CEO Josu Jon Imaz.
Lehendakari Urkullu has celebrated the role of Euskadi, who once again “pays tribute” to his innovative past, “committed to renewable energy sources and a public-private partnership model.”
