According to current assessments of the British intelligence services, a new wave of Russian recruitment for the war of aggression against Ukraine before next year’s presidential elections seems unlikely. This is evident from the daily intelligence report of the Ministry of Defense in London.
According to London, the Kremlin will try to keep unpopular measures to a minimum until the March 17 elections. Although President Vladimir Putin has not yet announced his intention to run for office, he will almost certainly seek re-election, the Defense Ministry tweeted on Tuesday (see tweet below).
Putin’s election campaign already in November?
It is almost certain that Putin’s election campaign, which could begin as early as November, will focus on the issue of Russia as a separate civilization that must be defended against external enemies. A narrative often used to justify the actions of the state and Putin’s consolidation of power.
Although elections in Russia are controlled by the Kremlin, they are an important tool for political legitimacy. According to reports from London, it is therefore highly unlikely that another wave of mobilization will take place before the presidential elections in March 2024.
The British Ministry of Defense publishes daily information about the progress of the war since the start of the war against Ukraine in February 2022. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
