On the occasion of the major offensive in Israel, Palestinian Ambassador Salah Abdel Safi does not want to distance himself from their atrocities in a conversation with Katia Wagner. In protest to the other panel members, he says: “Our blood is no less red than theirs.”
Although the Palestinian ambassador is saddened when he thinks about the civilians who have suffered harm in this war, he does not want to see the attack as an “isolated event.” He states: “No one reports on the civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip. We have no water, no electricity – that’s not talked about. Israel is treated as a state above the law.” That is why Abdel Safi does not want to distance himself from Hamas and calls for the implementation of the two-state solution.
If the demonstration had not been canceled by the police tonight and he had not been prevented, he would also have marched. “Out of solidarity with the Palestinian people,” he explains.
Kapp fights back tears
Communications expert Daniel Kapp, himself of Jewish descent, explains: “It is certainly a special event when Jewish life has to be deliberately destroyed.” When he mentions about forty decapitated baby corpses, Kapp visibly fights back tears. Kapp believes: “A two-state solution would be possible if there were no radical Islam in the region!”
“Deafening silence”
Martin Engelberg cannot understand why the Palestinian ambassador is endorsing his community’s demonstrations taking place tonight at Stephansplatz and Heldenplatz and would even like to go there himself. Moreover, he sees a ‘deafening silence’ from the Palestinian authorities; for him this is a step back towards radicalism.
“Nothing justifies this atrocity”
The foreign policy chief of the Kronen Zeitung, Kurt Seinitz, is certain that discussions about a two-state solution are outdated as long as the Palestinian side does not clearly distance itself from Hamas’ actions. He makes it clear: “Whatever Israel has done – and it has done a lot – nothing justifies this barbaric atrocity.”
