A suspected smuggler sensationally escaped arrest in Burgenland. After his arrest, the Pakistani complained of nausea. After being taken to the Kittsee clinic in the Neusiedl am See district, the suspected accomplice of a smuggling gang secretly fled. A drone and a sniffer dog were used to search for the prisoner – another arrest!
There is currently a lot of activity on Europe’s notorious smuggling gang routes. As reported, hundreds of refugees are waiting at the Serbian-Hungarian border to be transported to the West. In Burgenland alone, 1,545 arrests were registered last week. In the hotspot district of Neusiedl am See, 1,071 migrants were reported within seven days. At the same time, police in the Neusiedl region arrested 16 smugglers out of 14 stopped refugee transports.
This week started in a similarly turbulent way. On Tuesday evening, a smuggler was arrested by the police in Gattendorf. “I feel terribly ill,” the man from Pakistan complained while in custody. The suspect was taken to the clinic in Kittsee for examination and treatment, guarded by a police escort. The suspected smuggler took this opportunity to escape.

Alarm! The entire clinic was searched for the fleeing suspect and turned upside down – to no avail. He was gone. A neighbor from an adjacent property saw the man climbing over a wall. Supported by a drone and an assistance dog, the search began. Shortly afterwards, the wanted Pakistani was found in a private building. Within hours he was arrested a second time. Because the prison in Eisenstadt is overcrowded with arrested human traffickers, the man was transferred to an alternative cell in Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria).
