Ground offensive planned – Israel’s army: civilians from Gaza City

Date:

The Israeli army has ordered the evacuation of civilians from Gaza City. Military operations are expected to take place there in the coming days. The United Nations estimates that this affects about 1.1 million people, about half the population of the Gaza Strip. Hamas announced that thirteen hostages had been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

According to a statement from the Israeli army in the early hours of Friday morning, dozens of fighter jets were used to attack 750 military targets last night. These include Hamas underground tunnels, military facilities, homes of high-ranking terrorists used as military command centers, and weapons depots.

“Time for war”
The call for civilians to seek safety south of the Gaza River signals the imminent start of an Israeli ground offensive in the Gaza Strip. This is necessary to protect citizens. “Now it is time for war,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Thursday.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement in New York that the Israeli army’s order also applies to all United Nations personnel and those housed in UN facilities such as schools, health centers and clinics. The UN believes that such a move cannot possibly take place without devastating humanitarian consequences. He called on the Israeli military to reverse the decision so that an already tragic situation does not become catastrophic.

Already 1,300 dead
The number of deaths in Israel from major attacks by Islamist Hamas has risen to at least 1,300, most of them civilians. More than 3,000 other people were injured. At the same time, Israel has continued to bomb targets in the Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 1,500 Palestinian deaths.

A humanitarian crisis is looming
According to the United Nations, more than 400,000 people in the Gaza Strip have fled their homes since Israeli retaliatory attacks began. 23 employees of the aid organization died. The organization called for nearly $294 million in aid to people in Gaza and the West Bank. Half of that is intended for food.
