Politicians in the capital are angry over a wave of fake emails currently breaking through town hall. The NEOS see an acute need for action: the city of Graz must improve its IT infrastructure!
The wife of the late rich dictator in Africa left a legacy of millions, a lottery company in the US needs the account details for a huge payout: as soon as the virus protection on the computer is not up to date – and the inbox overflows with annoying spam – Mails about.
The politicians in Graz can tell you a thing or two about that: Since the weekend, a wave of fake e-mails has been going through the town hall, addressed to Mayor Elke Kahr, her deputy Judith Schwentner and all city councils. Included in the post: A “cry for help” from the “Graz sister city of Changwon”.
Better spam protection is needed
It is of course all fictional, there is no twinning with the South Korean municipality. But what bothers NEOS the most: the city of Graz does not have good spam protection: “Any fake email should be treated with extreme caution. One wrong click can have major consequences for the IT infrastructure of the city of Graz,” councilor Philipp Pointner told “Krone”. That is why it is important to “continuously update the spam filters.” If the town hall coalition saves here, then it is here. definitely in the wrong place!
