A large contingent of emergency services rushed to the Trebesing underground road on the A10 Tauernautobahn in Carinthia around noon on Saturday. A 62-year-old Bosnian woman crashed into the tunnel wall and became trapped in the demolished car.
The fire brigades of Gmünd, Trebesing, Lendorf and Seeboden, as well as the rescue services and the police, were called to the Tauern highway again after a serious traffic accident. For reasons still unclear, a 62-year-old woman from Bosnia lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the right tunnel wall on the Trebesing underground route.
“The result was that the vehicle was thrown against the left wall of the tunnel and came to a stop on the emergency lane,” an official describes the accident.
Salvaged from a completely deformed car
The driver became trapped in the wreckage of the car during the crash and could only be rescued by the fire brigade using rescue scissors. “On site, the operations manager discovered that a person was trapped in the vehicle,” says a firefighter.
The 62-year-old was injured to an unspecified degree in the accident and had to be flown to Klagenfurt hospital by the RK1 rescue helicopter. The road towards Villach was closed to all traffic until approximately 2 p.m.
