A Bulgarian brought a 17-year-old to Austria with the promise of offering her a better life. Here the 19-year-old forced the girl with enormous violence to work in a brothel. After the verdict, he will only be in prison for two weeks.
She dreamed of her own house and car, a better life. Not characterized by violence and poverty as in home country Bulgaria. She eventually met the 19-year-old suspect online. He promised her a better life in Austria. “He was nice to her. He was charming,” said the prosecutor at the Vienna Regional Court.
Sent to find victims in Vienna
When we arrived in Vienna, this turned out to be a blatant lie. “He took advantage of the girl’s forced situation and forced her into prostitution. He kept the winnings,” the prosecutor said. From December 2023, the 17-year-old had to offer her body for money, otherwise the young Bulgarian would become violent.
“Short period of crime, but very intense”
Even her colleagues and the brothel owner noticed the girl’s serious injuries. She always waved them off and made excuses. Once the young man beat her bloody with a high chair, another time he injured her with a key; scars were left behind. Beaten black and blue, she was finally able to escape on January 5 – she even had to get stitches.
“It may have been quite a short period, but it was very intense. “She had at least five clients a night,” the private stakeholder representative explains, explaining what the 17-year-old had to go through in those approximately 40 days.
And lawyer Mirsad Musliu can advise his client nothing other than to plead guilty to human trafficking, cross-border prostitution and pimping. “He still doesn’t fit the classic image of a pimp. When you imagine a pimp, you think of a bald man, 6 feet tall and wearing three gold chains. No, that’s not him.”
Only a few more weeks in prison
The 19-year-old Bulgarian is ultimately convicted as charged. He is sentenced to two years in prison, of which he actually has to spend eight months in prison. But since he has already spent most of it in custody, he will be released in a few weeks. However, the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum has issued an arrest warrant for him.
