A 28-year-old man who allegedly pushed a man off the famous Stone Bridge in Regensburg, Bavaria, has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
“After he was brought to court, he was taken to a specialized forensic clinic,” a spokesman for the Upper Palatinate police station said on Sunday. Further information, in particular about the possible motive for the crime, was initially not known.
Fell on bridge pillars
According to the investigation, the 28-year-old German pushed a 20-year-old Syrian off the Stone Bridge on Friday. Together with the Gothic cathedral, this is the most famous monument in the World Heritage city of Regensburg.
The victim fell onto a bridge pillar on the paved area and was seriously injured. Paramedics took him to a hospital.
Passersby who witnessed the crime held the 28-year-old until he was arrested. The police are now investigating an attempted manslaughter and are looking for witnesses.
