After summer and high temperatures proved to be persistent, temperatures dropped in Carinthia on Sunday. This brought the first snow on the mountains and partly icy temperatures.
The mountain peaks in Upper Carinthia appeared somewhat “sugar-coated” on Sunday afternoon. “We measured minus six degrees on the Hoher Sonnblick,” explains Nikolas Zimmermann, meteorologist at the Ubimet weather service. But the first greeting of winter shouldn’t last long.
Royal nights, sunny days
While there may be freezing temperatures in almost all parts of Carinthia in the coming nights, there has been frost in the mountains above 1,800 meters since Sunday. “Frost is expected in the coming nights, especially in the Gurktal Alps,” Zimmermann said in an interview with the “Krone”.
The meteorologist also has good news for sun worshipers. “While the nights will be cold, it will be mostly sunny during the day,” Zimmermann said. The mercury in the thermometer will probably rise to 14 degrees.
