Serious industrial accident in Palting in the Innviertel: Three people were at least partially buried during construction work along the road. The most affected employee (43) was completely underground.
The emergency services were informed at around 12.45 pm: A cunette, or wall of a construction pit – in the photo you can see a concrete shaft that is currently being placed – had apparently collapsed.
The reason was that the local water pipe had been dug up or damaged during construction work. The water escaped, mixed with the ground and the ground gave way.
The construction worker, a 43-year-old Slovakian, who stood in the pit, was completely buried. According to helpers, only his hands were sticking out. The rescue operation, started by colleagues, was successful and the victim was resuscitated on site.
The 43-year-old, who was most seriously injured, was taken to Salzburg State Hospital by rescue helicopter. Two slightly injured people (a 52-year-old from Innviertel and a 41-year-old from Slovakia) were taken to the accident hospital in Salzburg.
The Red Cross crisis intervention team provided care to witnesses and colleagues.
