Fatal accident after microsleep. On the Innkreis highway, a 20-year-old briefly fell asleep, left the road and crashed head-on into the crash barrier of a highway exit. His father, who had been sitting in the passenger seat, was thrown through the windshield.
The 20-year-old Romanian was driving a car on the A8 Innkreis highway towards Voralpenkreuz around 7:50 am on Tuesday. His 51-year-old father was in the passenger seat and another Romanian national (23) was driving with him.
Passenger not wearing seat belt
The driver must have suddenly fallen asleep and just before the Hague highway exit, the car suddenly swerved from the right lane to the right, hitting the shock absorber without braking. The 51-year-old, who was apparently not wearing a seat belt, was thrown through the windshield of the car and landed several meters in front of the car.
Three injured
He suffered serious injuries and was flown to UKH Linz with the Christophorus rescue helicopter. The driver and the 23-year-old were taken to hospitals with injuries of an unknown nature. The completely damaged car was towed away.
