Four known cases – suspected abuse: new management in kindergarten

Date:

Further conclusions have been drawn because of the suspicion of abuse in a Viennese kindergarten. The manager has been removed from her position and is no longer on duty. The facility is now under new management. As reported, the educator accused of the crimes has already been transferred to the back office. The fourth suspect case was announced on Thursday.

“There will be new management on the site of Penzing,” said the responsible alderman Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) at a press conference on Friday. “The old one is no longer in use.” A child protection concept for municipal kindergartens should also be developed and standards raised. It is “clear that we must act immediately,” emphasized Wiederkehr.

“Communication was unsatisfactory”
The trust of parents has been damaged, as it turned out at a parents’ evening on Thursday. “Especially because communication with the parents was not satisfactory.” His job, Wiederkehr says, is to restore this confidence.

The independent commission set up by the city must now conduct a full analysis and clarification – “on the matter, but also to learn for the future,” the city council stressed. The case itself is “very complex”.

At the beginning of the week, it was revealed that a teacher allegedly abused a child in the municipal kindergarten 13 months ago. As a result, three other suspected cases were announced.

Strong criticism of the lack of information
After the first suspicious case became known – the parents sought a meeting with the management of the kindergarten – the public prosecutor was appointed and the man was transferred to the bureau. However, the parents of the other children on the site have not been given any information for the time being, this has only happened recently. This led to sharp criticism of MA 10, which is responsible for kindergartens.
