At the start of its meeting on Wednesday, the National Council commemorated the victims of Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel. National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms in a short speech. This was followed by a minute’s silence.
The Hamas terror group’s attack was “insidious, brutal and ruthless,” Sobotka said. In doing so, they leave a record of horror and also use their own population as a protective shield. The politician also campaigned for the immediate release of the Israeli hostages.
Memorial ceremony in Vienna for victims of Hamas terror
Last week, Vienna’s Ballhausplatz hosted a memorial event for the Israeli victims of Hamas terror under the motto “Stand with Israel.” About 2000 people participated. “We stand by Israel’s side in these difficult times,” said Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.
National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (both ÖVP), Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens), Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and NEOS club president Beate Meinl-Reisinger also expressed solidarity with speeches.
