Small children injured – tow truck driver arrested after highway accident

Date:

Because he was driving much too fast, the police noticed an Azerbaijani driver (30) on the A1 near Innerschwand and gave chase. After an accident, the suspect fled on foot, but was arrested shortly afterwards. He transported six Turks in the car.

During speed measurements on Saturday at 2.25 pm near Innerschwand, police officers became aware of the Polish car whose driver was racing on the A1 towards Salzburg. An attempt to stop the man in the truck parking lot in Oberwang failed. He fled at extremely high speed.

At the Wangauer Ache construction site, the driver used the right side of the two separate lanes and was stopped by a slow-moving car. This allowed the police patrol to overtake the getaway car and signal the man again to stop driving immediately.

Crashed in the protection of the construction site
At the first opportunity the driver turned right onto the cordoned off area of this building site and raced past the partly tarred and gravel building site. This caused the car to skid, collide with a construction site fence, be thrown to the right and subsequently remain damaged. The driver immediately jumped from the wreckage and fled over the steep embankment.

Those who were dragged were in pain
It soon became clear why he wanted nothing to do with the police: there were six Turks who had entered the country illegally in his car – including two small children – who were complaining of pain. They were taken to the Vöcklabruck clinic.

The driver who fled, a 30-year-old from Azerbaijan, was eventually arrested on Oberwanger Landesstraße. He was taken to the Wels Police Detention Center.
