Partial lunar eclipse Saturday in Austria

Date:

On Saturday, Earth’s shadow will partially pass over the full moon, causing a so-called partial lunar eclipse. 13 percent of the moon’s disk is covered by our planet’s umbra.

The spectacle starts – weather permitting and the sky is clear of clouds – at 9:34 PM CEST with the entry of the moon into the Earth’s umbra and ends at 10:54 PM. The peak is at 10:14 PM CEST: during the maximum solar eclipse, 13 percent of the moon’s disk lies at the lower left of our Earth’s umbra.

Natural spectacle only possible during the full moon
Lunar eclipses only occur during the full moon. The sun, Earth, and moon are aligned, and Earth’s satellite moves through Earth’s umbra, or penumbra. The moon can be completely in this shadow (this is called a total lunar eclipse) or only partially (partial lunar eclipse).

The next lunar eclipse visible in Austria will occur next year, on March 25. However, this is a partial penumbral eclipse that is not visible. However, the partial lunar eclipse on September 18, 2024 can be almost completely observed.

The next total lunar eclipse won’t happen until 2028
The next total lunar eclipse visible from Austria will not occur until December 31, 2028.
