The Florianijüngers were called up in Schlins on Sunday evening for an unusual mission. A horse ran away and fell into a stream.
A twelve-year-old girl rode her 14-year-old horse in Schlins on Sunday around 5 p.m. When the bridle suddenly broke, the rider dismounted. The animal apparently took advantage of this opportunity and galloped away towards the stable. It came to a stream where it jumped into, but could not get out.
The alerted fire brigade and a special animal rescue unit arrived on the scene. Because the water level in the stream was quite high, it was difficult to save the horse. The water was therefore drained into the stream via a weir. Only then could a recovery harness be fitted to the gelding. The animal also had to be calmed with a syringe. The maneuver was ultimately successful: the horse was rescued from the floods with a crane and placed back on safe ground unharmed.
