After the murder of a woman (33) on Saturday in Strasshof on the Nordbahn in Lower Austria, the alleged perpetrator was taken into custody. The 35-year-old is in Korneuburg prison. Josef Mechtler of the Public Prosecution Service said he was being investigated on suspicion of murder.
According to police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner, an argument may have been the reason for the crime. The couple had four children between the ages of nine and thirteen. However, the victim and the suspect no longer lived together at the time of the crime.
Shot in the middle of the street
The 35-year-old is said to have shot his ex-partner on the street in front of her house early on Saturday afternoon. Witnesses alerted the emergency services and despite immediate resuscitation measures, the victim died on the spot.
Moments later, the suspect turned himself in at the Deutsch-Wagram police station and was arrested there.
The murder weapon, a pistol, was found in the car of the Lower Austrian. The Public Prosecution Service has ordered an autopsy on the victim.
