First the good news: Although seven people were involved in the accident in the Swiss town of Sargans (canton of St. Gallen), only two were slightly injured. A tractor had driven into a convoy waiting at a traffic light. The material damage is significant.
A 28-year-old woman was driving her car and her 58-year-old passenger on St. Gallerstrasse from Trübbach towards Sargans. The 28-year-old stopped her Ford Focus at a traffic light at the construction site. Behind her, a 59-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man with his 31-year-old passenger and a 46-year-old man overtook their vehicles and also stopped them.
Column overlooked
At the same time, a 25-year-old man was driving his tractor and a trailer in the same direction. For unknown reasons, according to the St. Gallen cantonal police, he noticed the stationary convoy too late and almost crashed into the back of the 46-year-old’s car with his tractor.
High material damage
As a result of this ‘bumper car’ collision, all five vehicles in the convoy were pushed together. The driver of the last car and the passenger of the penultimate car in the convoy were slightly injured and taken to hospital by the emergency services. According to the police, there was material damage worth approximately 30,000 Swiss francs, the equivalent of 31,583.94 euros.
