A car was hit by a train on the Aspangbahn in Guntramsdorf in Lower Austria on Friday afternoon. The 17-year-old driver may have been blinded by the sun and missed the red light at an unrestricted level crossing. It is the fourth accident on the level crossing.
The force of the impact threw the car a full 25 meters. A 16-year-old passenger in the back seat was seriously injured, the state police of Lower Austria reported. The seriously injured man from the Tulln district was flown in a rescue helicopter to the Wiener Neustadt state hospital.
Driver slightly injured
The 21-year-old passenger was also injured and was taken to Baden State Hospital with rescuers. The 17-year-old driver from the Bruck an der Leitha district escaped with minor injuries. The passengers and driver of the passenger train were not injured in the accident.
Fourth accident on level crossing
The car and train were badly damaged. According to the fire service, this is the fourth traffic accident at the level crossing this year.
