Halloween is getting closer – and with it the fear of new destruction caused by fireworks is growing. As a preventive measure, the police held a fireworks demonstration in the Viennese district of Floridsdorf on Friday. With success: 128 pyrotechnic articles were seized from eleven young people – most of whom had just reached the age of criminal responsibility.
During the operation, which was carried out by the Floridsdorf city police command and the Vienna standby unit at the Am Spitz train station, special attention was paid to the import and possible trade of illegal fireworks.
In addition to 128 pyrotechnic objects, a combat knife, four stun guns, pepper spray and two air rifles were also seized in just six hours. Numerous advertisements have also been written: twelve under the Pyrotechnics Act, nine under the Weapons Act and one under the Youth Protection Act.
It was only on Wednesday evening that unknown people threw a firecracker into a ventilation shaft in Floridsdorf. An explosion occurred and the wall of the house was damaged.
On the occasion of the upcoming Halloween night, the Viennese police once again announce that so-called ‘harmless pranks’, such as defacing house walls or destroying objects with pyrotechnics, represent damage to property and that consistent action will be taken in such cases.
