“We are still in shock,” said the operators of the Buchauer Alm in Maurach am Achensee, still stunned a day after the devastating fire in their snack bar. As reported, the building was completely destroyed despite the rapid intervention of approximately 80 firefighters.
“We were unable to get the fire trucks up the mountain due to road renovations,” operational manager Rupert Wöll describes the difficult operation. With the help of two helicopters and ‘ticking’ snow cannons, the Florianijüngers were finally able to get the fire under control. After a fire watch throughout the night, the fire was finally declared out around 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The tenant (34) suffered burns to his hand. “He is doing well considering the circumstances,” it says on the Alm’s Facebook page. Above all, the owners are happy that nothing happened to any of the twenty guests. The cause of the fire was probably hot grease that started burning in the kitchen. The starting area of the fire was clearly near the kitchen stove, police said in a broadcast on Sunday.
