Pro-Palestine protest – mice in McDonald’s: British police investigate

Date:

Fast food chain McDonald’s has condemned incidents in Britain where pro-Palestinian activists threw live mice and rats into restaurants en masse. Police in the city of Birmingham are now investigating one of the cases, videos of which are circulating on the internet.

Video clips on social media (see below) show men carrying Palestinian flags dumping crates of mice or rats into McDonald’s restaurants. Some animals were apparently painted in the colors of the Palestinian flag.

The activists would like to take revenge for the fact that the chain’s restaurants in Israel had distributed free meals to soldiers.

“No support”
A McDonald’s spokesperson emphasized that in Israel these were independent decisions made by the individual licensees. “McDonald’s Corporation does not finance or support any government involved in the conflict,” the spokesperson said. Local business partners who operate restaurants under license would independently devise promotions, without McDonald’s permission.

The exterminator had to arrive
The fast food chain said its restaurants were fully cleaned after the incidents and exterminators were called in. A branch in Birmingham was temporarily closed after the attack, the BBC reports.

The police say they have started an investigation into public order disturbance. It said: “We understand the stress this has caused and this is not acceptable under any circumstances.”
