Pastor on death – ‘A good farewell makes life easier’

Date:

Dealing with the subject of death is not an easy undertaking. Fear and shyness often get in the way. This does not apply to Raphaela Krojer, who has little use for the obvious and advises everyone to talk about death and dying. Even though it hurts so much.

Almost exactly twenty years ago, Raphaela Krojer, who had previously worked in children’s ministry, moved to pastoral care in the hospital. As she says, she couldn’t really do much with the subject of saying goodbye. But “when I came to the then empty oncology ward and palliative care unit at Oberwart Hospital and sought a dialogue with God, I felt good and then I just did it,” she recalls of her early days in end-of-life care. .
