Ophidiophobia needs to stop reading now. Because in Vienna-Donaustadt the nightmare of every snake enemy became reality.
Animal Welfare Austria was recently called to an unusual operation. A snake was spotted in a toilet of a hotel in Vienna’s 22nd district. Animal shelter manager Stephan Scheidl: “When we arrived and only saw the tail, we were not sure whether the animal was a poisonous species. The operation was also difficult because the hose disappeared into the reservoir and pipes several times.”
Apparently he felt at home in the pipe world
With great sensitivity, the experts finally managed to free the animal. The identified snake was a kingsnake, a non-venomous snake native to North America. “This species is not native to Austria and therefore we strongly suspect that this is an abandoned or escaped pet,” said the animal rights activist.
What to do in case of emergency?
Tierschutz Austria recently published a list of recommendations on how to behave if you encounter a snake in nature, in the garden or even in a toilet. All information here.
