The BMW that was rammed head-on by a truck on April 24 is barely recognizable. Because the driver of the tractor-trailer stopped on the Mattersburg Expressway (S4) near Katzelsdorf, he ended up in the opposite lane, hitting the right guardrail first and may have swerved to the left.

Mother and daughter died at the scene of the accident
Where a 49-year-old and her daughter (16) drove towards Burgenland in a BMW. The car was first pushed against the guardrail and then pushed under the tractor-trailer. All help came too late for the woman and her child; they died at the scene of the accident. The truck driver was thrown from the driver’s cab and remained on the asphalt. The seriously injured man was taken to the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital.

He now faces two charges of negligent homicide at the Wiener Neustadt Regional Court. According to previous police reports, the 65-year-old’s tractor-trailer had crossed a double barrier line before the crash. That is why he receives a seven-month suspended prison sentence. According to the court, the conviction for negligent homicide is not legally binding.

Temporary middle separation after another fatal accident
After the serious accident, there were immediate and repeated calls for a central separation line on the S4. The demand emerged again after the two-car collision near Sigleß (Mattersburg district) on August 19 left three people dead and three seriously injured. A temporary separation of resources will now be installed on the S4 at the end of this year. Construction work started (yesterday) Wednesday. The measure is intended to increase road safety until the actual safety expansion starts in the autumn of 2025. Speed ​​monitoring using radar is also planned.
