Politically, things are becoming increasingly uncomfortable for Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israeli head of government is blamed for the October 7 failure. Police had to stop angry demonstrators in front of one of his houses.
In Israel, hundreds of people protested in front of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home, demanding his resignation. According to The Times of Israel newspaper, there were clashes with police in Jerusalem on Saturday evening as demonstrators tried to push through the barriers. Three people have been arrested, the report said.
People accused Netanyahu of allowing the militant Palestinian organization Hamas to carry out the worst massacre in Israel’s history on October 7 under his leadership. They also called for a prisoner exchange.
Netanyahu is hit hard politically
The major attack from the Gaza Strip came as a surprise to the authorities. Netanyahu was already under pressure over a controversial judicial reform and corruption allegations.
According to the report, there were renewed protests against Netanyahu in other places in Israel. The head of government has so far refused to publicly admit his own mistakes.
In Tel Aviv, thousands of people also gathered in the city center to show their support for the families of the more than 240 people taken hostage by Hamas.
Not the first protest
Recently, representatives of the hostages’ relatives called for a prisoner exchange after a meeting with Netanyahu. Netanyahu rejects a ceasefire in the Gaza war as long as the Islamist Hamas does not release the hostages it is holding in the Gaza Strip.
