There is great sadness in the Mühlviertel and in the Voest after the tragic accidental death of a 43-year-old. For the young family of the father and popular colleague and friend, it is the third fatal blow in just a year and a half: “It is unbelievable what this family has to endure.”
Why? Why does fate strike this family again? – Everyone who knew Daniel R. (43) from Kirchschlag asks themselves this question. As reported, he died last Wednesday in the Voest after a 1,500 kilo transformer fell on him from a trailer. He is survived by his wife and 13-year-old twins. For them, it is the third major loss they have had to deal with in less than a year and a half.
14-year-old son preceded father
“He is definitely with Niklas now,” a family friend finds comfort in this thought. Just 14 months ago, the father and the young farmer had to bury his barely 15-year-old son. The young Mühlviertler had received two catastrophic diagnoses as a child and, as the docket notes, “after a long, patiently endured illness, he fell asleep peacefully in the company of his loved ones.”
Mourning old farmers, grandfather and great-grandfather
In June the extended family had to come together again to say goodbye to a beloved family member. The old farmer and father-in-law of the 43-year-old from Mühlviertel who died in the accident died at the age of 87 – a ninefold grandfather and sevenfold great-grandfather.
Burial in the home chapel
Now the family faces a new blow of fate and gathers again in the home chapel to accompany Daniel R. to his final resting place in the nearest circle. To this end, a memorial service will take place in Kirchschlag on Sinterklaas Day for family, friends and colleagues – the 43-year-old was a popular and valued employee and colleague at Voest for many years.
Everyone offers help
In any case, there is great solidarity among the Voestlern and in the 2,200-resident home community of Kirchschlag, and people want to help where they can. The most important thing is to cope with the mundane family life that has spiraled out of control and continue running the farm in the midst of grief. The first volunteers have already signed up to help.
