Three deer crossed the national highway in Innerschwand on Sunday, but only two arrived on the other side. One of the animals jumped into the water shaft next to the road and was stuck there helplessly until the hunt leader and fire brigade could free it.
“A driver saw three deer crossing the main road, one of the deer then jumped into the deep water shaft next to the road. When we arrived with our team, the deer was already very exhausted from the many attempts to get out of the shaft,” reports operational manager Bernhard Strobl of the FF Innerschwand.
Helpers carried deer
The Floriani went to the scene on Attersee Strasse on Sunday afternoon with 18 men and two vehicles. Yacht director Manfred Draschwandtner was also on site. He climbed the fireman’s ladder into the shaft and first made sure that the deer remained unharmed. The hunt leader and firefighters then carried the animal out of the shaft. The frightened animal jumped off the rescuers’ shoulders under its own power and ran away into the nearby forest.
