After a 92-year-old resident was raped and robbed by an intruder, security measures have now been tightened in all ‘residential homes’.
At the beginning of October, a 92-year-old lady became the victim of a horrific crime in a retirement home. A 23-year-old Algerian man gained access to the elderly woman’s room, tied her up, raped her and also stole her jewelry.
Video surveillance starts “this week”
The house in the fourth district, which is owned by the board of directors of the Vienna Retirement Residences, has now tightened security measures. For example, the planned installation of video surveillance in the entrance area of all ‘homes for living’ was brought forward and ‘will start this week in the first houses’, a spokesperson told the ‘Krone’.
Staff sensitized
Employees were also informed of the situation. Ergo, they must actively approach unknown or unknown people and question their presence. But in general, since the incident, access to the homes is only possible via the main entrances.
And: “Outside reception opening hours, access to the home is only possible with a chip or by registering or ringing the doorbell,” it continues.
