‘Nokedli’ disappeared for six months. Now the velvet paw has reappeared unscathed in Lower Austria. She was found in a landfill more than 20 miles from home.
An emotional reunion that no one expected recently took place at the Krems animal shelter. There, a resident of St. Pölten was able to take his beloved cat into his arms again – after about six months in which its fate was completely uncertain.
One day the velvet paw simply disappeared. Without a trace! We searched intensively for her for weeks, but without success. When the hope had already diminished to a minimum, an employee of the waste company Brantner from Krems called the animal rescue service. A cat had been spotted wandering around the company grounds for some time.
Ridden in the garbage truck?
The animal rescue team was finally able to catch the four-legged friend. When the chip was read, the trail initially led abroad; the cat was registered in Hungary. But she didn’t ‘travel’ that far anyway. Her owner had now moved with her to St. Pölten, where ‘Nokedli’ (Hungarian for Nockerl) may have traveled by garbage truck to Krems, about 35 kilometers away.
The owner could hardly believe his luck when he found out that his darling was still alive and currently recovering from the odyssey at the animal shelter. From there, St. Pöltner was able to pick up the cat again. “The reunion was very cordial,” says the happy man from the animal shelter afterwards.
The case also shows the importance of chipping. “Without registration, we would probably never have been able to find out the cat’s owner,” the animal shelter says.
