The carelessness of a truck driver had serious consequences in the Tyrolean Zillertal shortly after noon on Friday. The 41-year-old was driving a logging truck and, according to police, overlooked cars that had stopped in front of him at an intersection. The result was a rear-end collision. Five vehicles were involved in the accident.
The accident took place in the municipality of Uderns. At an intersection, the 41-year-old truck driver overlooked that the cars in front of him had stopped and crashed into the last car. The impact pushed all three cars together.
Oncoming vehicle trapped
The truck driver steered his van into the oncoming lane and was able to somewhat limit the impact of the collision. But at the same time, a German couple was driving a car in the opposite lane. The Germans’ car was trapped between the car and a concrete wall.
Three people were seriously injured in the accident. After the first treatment they were admitted to the Schwaz hospital. There was significant damage to all vehicles involved. While first aid was administered and the accident was recorded, the national highway was closed to all traffic for about two hours.
