A 45-year-old woman experienced frightening moments on Friday evening when she ended up in a thunderstorm on Lake Constance with her stand-up paddleboard (SUP). Wind gusts of up to 60 km/h threatened to drive the athlete to the center of the lake.
At 19:55 the rescue and fire station in Vorarlberg received an emergency call from a skipper who had observed that a person on a SUP was driven into the open lake on Lake Constance near the Harder harbor entrance and needed help.
At that time, there was a strong wind warning for all of Lake Constance due to an approaching thunderstorm. The meteorologists predict wind gusts of up to seven Beaufort (60 km/h) from the south. Due to the increasing offshore wind, the woman could no longer stay close to the shore with her SUP board and drifted to the middle of the lake.
The alarmed rescue boats of the Austrian blue light organizations immediately went to the spot. The crew of the water rescue boat V-9 eventually discovered the 45-year-old woman in distress, rescued her and took her unharmed to safe waters.
