Injured people, including children, screaming in pain because of a lack of medicine and supplies, people without drinking water or food – and in between doctors who themselves become refugees: the Carinthian Diyani Dewasurendra from Gaza gives an emotional report. The doctor was there on behalf of “Doctors Without Borders” in the middle of the armed conflict until they could be evacuated.
Diyani Dewasurendra still remembers October 7 clearly: “Usually the drones receive you and wake you up. But this morning there was a rushing sound. One like I’ve never heard before. And I jump up, look out the window and see five red ribbons flying over our house. And I knew: okay, something is different now. It was immediately clear to us that there was more going on.”
