A cyber incident at a major port operator in Australia has partially halted freight traffic. Ships in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle were able to offload their cargo, but the goods were unable to leave ports, the company told DP World Australia on Saturday.
According to Australian news agency AAP, the Australian government is responding to a “nationally significant cyber incident,” National Cyber Security Advisor Darren Goldie wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). It was initially unknown who or what might have caused the incident.
There have been problems since Friday
The problems started on Friday and continued on Saturday. As a result, the port authority has stopped all internet activities and is now working hard to resume normal business operations.
Ship access to the affected ports is limited. However, incoming sensitive cargo has priority and can be processed further, the report said. The parent company is DP World, based in the United Arab States.
