Fire alarm on Monday evening in Imst in the Tyrolean Oberland: a 67-year-old local was heating the tiled stove in her apartment when a piece of embers suddenly fell from the stove. The wooden briquettes in front of it caught fire. Attempts to extinguish the fire themselves failed. The woman, who eventually inhaled smoke, called 911 and ran to safety. Their canaries died.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m., the 67-year-old pensioner turned on her tiled stove and left the stove door open for a while. “Suddenly it struck me “The piece of embers came out and landed directly on the wooden briquettes in front of it,” police reported. The briquettes then ignited immediately.
The resident managed to get to safety
The older woman then immediately tried to cover and smother the fire. However, without success. “The woman eventually managed to get to safety, left the apartment and called 911,” investigators continued.
To the hospital with smoke inhalation
The Imst city fire brigade quickly arrived on site, was able to bring the situation under control and extinguish the fire. “There was significant damage to the apartment. Five canaries died from the heavy smoke in their cage.”
After the first treatment, the 67-year-old had to be taken to Zams Hospital with suspected smoke poisoning. The Imst city fire brigade had a total of 40 members on duty.
