A 26-year-old tries to convince the judge of the Vienna Regional Court that he wants to be the “savior in purple”. It is said that he was the one who hit a youth. Just because he is a Rapid supporter. A suspended prison sentence is imposed.
On September 3, a 15-year-old Rapid supporter entered dangerous territory. The youngster wanted to watch the Austria Vienna vs Austria Klagenfurt match in the Ultra sector at the Generali Arena. Where the extreme fans of Austria Vienna roar.
“This is an area for die-hard Austrians”
It didn’t take long for fans to attack the man and punch him. One of them is said to have been the 26-year-old suspect. “It was said that there was a Rapid fan who did not belong here. This is an area for seasoned Austrians,” he explained to Judge Martina Krainz of the Vienna Regional Court.
Despite the known rivalry between the football clubs, the older man wants to protect the Rapid team. “I said it doesn’t hurt him” – the 26-year-old even claims he escorted him out of the stadium. ‘Make sure you don’t come here again. Otherwise they will kill you” – that is the last brotherly advice.
Cell phone and wallet taken for inspection
“Why is he accusing you when you are the savior in purple?” Judge Krainz asks skeptically. “You should ask him that,” was the defendant’s response. And Mrs. Rat does that and is shown a completely different version than the victim. As soon as he entered the stands, Austrian fans grabbed his cell phone and wallet and searched him. The 15-year-old has never identified himself as a Rapid fan.
He was beaten with fists and feet – also by the defendant. The youngster also remembers the brotherly advice in a very different way: “He said that if he saw me again, he would kill me. And then he threw me out full force.” His bloody bruised nose was treated in hospital.
Conditional imprisonment and compensation for pain and suffering
Only the 26-year-old Austrian was convicted by the Vienna Regional Court – the others involved could no longer be located. He was not legally sentenced to one year in prison for serious bodily harm. He must pay the 15-year-old 500 euros in compensation – he probably won’t dare go to the Generali Arena that quickly…
