A broken car light exposed the romance of a 36-year-old teacher and her student in the US state of Idaho. The woman now faces a life sentence.
It was a routine traffic stop with unexpected consequences: A patrol car pulled a 16-year-old out of traffic in Saint Anthony, Idaho, at 3 a.m. because a taillight on his car wasn’t working.
“Too drunk to drive”
The result: not the young driver, but his teacher, who was not in the car, is now threatened with life imprisonment. The teen said his teacher, Jessica Lawson, lent him her car: “She was too drunk to drive me home.”
Gave the student alcohol and a joint
The South Fremont High School teacher picked the student up from his parents at 11 p.m. and took him home. There, the 36-year-old gave him alcohol and a joint and then had sex with him.
Lawson, who is married, was arrested. She vehemently denies giving her student marijuana or seducing him. If convicted of having sex with a minor after providing drugs or alcohol, Lawson faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, according to Idaho statutes.
