A field hospital has reached the Gaza Strip for the first time since the start of the war between Israel and the radical Islamist Hamas, according to the Hamas-controlled health authority. It will be located in Khan Younis in the south of the Palestinian territory.
The field hospital comes from Jordan. 40 trucks full of equipment and 17 nurses crossed the border.
The situation in hospitals in the south of the Gaza Strip has been described as “catastrophic” as they have to admit “hundreds of wounded people” every day due to persistent airstrikes and artillery fire.
More field hospitals could follow
The director general of hospitals in the Gaza Strip said two more field hospitals from the Arab Emirates and Qatar could follow.
According to Gaza’s chief medical officer, the field hospital will help relieve pressure on existing health facilities.
Hamas says there are currently 30,000 injured in the Gaza Strip.
