As reported, an officer from the Vöcklabruck district is being investigated for forged traffic fines. Now there are new details about the case: the police officer’s alleged violations are likely to be even more far-reaching than previously known.
He is no longer on duty, but will keep investigators busy for a long time: as reported, a police officer from the Vöcklabruck district allegedly issued false criminal warrants during traffic stops and then pocketed the fines. The Federal Office for the Fight against Corruption (BAK) is therefore investigating suspected abuse of office. The ‘Krone’ received new details from the Wels public prosecutor’s office responsible for the case.
Three lines of research
There are three lines of inquiry: First, the officer is said to have produced his own pads with organ mandates and then issued them. “But there is still no information about the number of victims or the extent of the damage,” said Silke Enzlmüller, spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service.
However, the suspected police officer, to whom the presumption of innocence applies, is also said to have issued real executive mandates, but subsequently failed to pay the fines and sometimes collected them himself. “The damage here amounts to almost 2,500 euros,” says Enzlmüller.
And thirdly, there are inconsistencies related to reporting and recording. Due to such an inconsistency in a report, the officer was accidentally exposed. Overall, the investigation is still in its early stages. The police officer in question has been suspended since the end of October.
