Major fire on Wednesday evening in Mooskirchen in western Styria: a wood chip factory caught fire in the Stögersdorf district. There were 90 firefighters from six area fire brigades present.
The photos from the Mooskirchen fire brigade show the gigantic size of the fire: the smoke column above the wood chip factory is meters high. Nearly a hundred firefighters had to go there on Wednesday around 5 p.m. to fight the inferno.
Even before the fire brigade arrived, employees tried to get the fire under control – unfortunately without success. The flames spread quickly. “Two respiratory protection teams immediately started fighting the fire. The operations manager immediately requested additional fire brigades to provide firefighting support and protect the premises in the adjacent engine hall,” the FF Mooskirchen report said.
The roof of the building partially collapsed. The women and men fought the flames from above using a turntable ladder. The fire was extinguished with water and wetting agent. Infrared cameras were used to look for embers.
Firefighters from Mooskirchen, Söding, Stainz, Köppling, Hallersdorf and Ligist were on site with 18 vehicles. No one was injured.
