In Leibnitz, southern Styria, two explosives were detonated in the cars of Jehovah’s Witnesses last summer. Now there is a lead for a suspect: it would be an ex-member of the religious community. The motive may be personal.
During a service of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Leibnitz on August 18, explosives were secretly mounted on the undersides of two cars. These exploded, but no one was injured.
Explosives exploded while driving
During the mass, a loud bang was heard outside. When the owner went to her car, she saw parts lying around her car. The explosives on the second car detonated while the driver was already on his way home. According to police, it was pure luck that the driver was uninjured.
Love as a motive?
For a long time there was no information about the status of the investigation. Now there should be a suspect. According to a report by the ‘Kurier’, the suspect is a former member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and the ex-partner of the woman whose car was detonated with explosives. He apparently wanted to marry the woman, but was denied permission by the religious community.
The Graz Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a search took place on Tuesday in connection with the explosive attack. No further details were disclosed.
