After work or on the way to the stadium: for Dominik Moser (38) from Bischofshofen, donating blood is almost a daily occurrence. He has helped others 53 times.
“I will also donate to the stadium when it is on its way.” Going to the blood donation center is almost routine for Dominik Moser. And he is a welcome visitor at the Red Cross: the 38-year-old has already donated blood 53 times. The Bischofshofener is at the very top in his age category.
The trained painter donated to the armed forces for the first time after school. And stayed there. “By donating I am doing something good for my body,” says Moser. “Half a liter of blood is changed every time.” He wants to be a role model for others and always thinks about his three children. “I’m happy when someone helps them in an emergency,” says Moser, describing his motivation. “My daughter (4) asked me why I had a bandage on my arm. I explained everything to her.”
The 38-year-old is a real windfall for the Red Cross. “Most of the people who were there as often as he was are older,” said Roberta Thanner of the rescue organization. “But it is great that young people are also so active. We need the descendants.” In winter, more blood is needed due to accidents. His blood type – A positive – is the most common and is therefore sought after. “I am healthy and want to help others,” says the 38-year-old. And he adds: ‘I’ll go as long as I can.’ Now he has a 56-day mandatory break to recover until January 15.
