Journalists from the Dossier Center platform have discovered two more luxury yachts allegedly owned by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The 38 meter long ‘Orion’ and the 71 meter long ‘Victoria’ are said to be part of the Kremlin boss’ impressive fleet. These are currently abroad – in a NATO country of all places.
The Kremlin boss is said to have a total fleet of ten ships. The two yachts are not officially owned by Putin, like many valuables attributed to the president. Russian elites often hide ownership of ships, real estate and other luxury goods – especially if they are located in the West and therefore could be hit by sanctions.
Ships were manufactured in military shipyards
The research platform is run by exiled Putin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky was founded, but found numerous indications that the ‘Victoria’ and the ‘Orion’ had ties to Putin. Both yachts were built at a Russian military shipyard that does not produce any civilian ships. Putin’s yacht “Graceful”, estimated to be worth around $100 million, was also built there.
The ship shuttles between its home port and Putin’s palace
The distances that the ‘Victoria’ travels also point to Putin as its owner. The ship often shuttles back and forth between its home port in Sochi and Cape Idokopas, where Putin’s palace is located. A photo that a friend of Putin’s lover Alina Kabaeva posted on the VKontakte platform is also extremely suspicious: the artistic gymnast Natalia Belugina performed a split with the ship prominently in the background. The reporters also discovered that some crew members have connections to Putin’s other luxury yachts.
The ‘Victoria’ and her escort ship ‘Orion’ are currently not in their home port of Sochi, but in Turkey and therefore on NATO territory. Because the largest ship will be maintained in Istanbul. It is said that ‘Victoria’ is Putin’s largest yacht in the Black Sea.
Backgammon on board cost more than 3000 euros
The superyacht will have two master cabins on board and can accommodate 28 people. One of the main cabins has a chic round bed with a mirror on the ceiling. According to Dossiercentrum, no savings were made on the interior decoration: “Of the items purchased for the yacht, four napkin rings cost 76,500 rubles (approx. 790 euros), beach towels – 216,000 rubles (approx. 2,240 euros), a chess set – 146,000 rubles (about 1510 euros), and a backgammon set – 321,000 rubles (about 3330 euros).
According to the media, the vehicle is the favorite yacht of Putin’s lover. Putin’s relationship with Kabaeva is said to have lasted fifteen years, although this has never been officially confirmed. The couple is also said to have children together.
