Before the first Advent, the first snowfall of the year should fall in Vienna – in any case, a short guest appearance is announced.
After an incredibly warm autumn, winter has finally arrived. The thermometer is expected to point below zero degrees Celsius for the first time next week. And winter has now come to stay. Since yesterday, a low from Russia has been leading cold air from Scandinavia to our home region.
But we are still far from the minus 20 degrees Celsius that has already been measured in some places in Sweden and Finland. However, the cold air causes something else: the snow line drops from more than 1000 meters into the valleys. But what are the chances that it will snow in Vienna?
Snow cover ‘maximum in higher-altitude districts’
“That is very likely. However, in the higher-lying neighborhoods it will remain at most during the night from Saturday to Sunday, but even there only a centimeter,” says GeoSphere. The sun will shine on Monday, it could be Mrs. Holle again on Tuesday.
The city is also preparing for this: no fewer than 1,400 trained employees and 280 clearing and gritting vehicles are ready for use.
