The Prime Ministers of Spain and Belgium sharply criticized Israel’s military actions in the Gaza Strip during a joint visit to Egypt. “The indiscriminate killing of civilians, including thousands of boys and girls, is completely unacceptable,” said Pedro Sánchez of Spain. This sparked outrage among the Israeli government.
Sánchez had previously demanded that the Israeli government respond differently, “accept international humanitarian law and respect the lives of women and children.” The agreed ceasefire with the terrorist organization Hamas was ‘a big step.’ “But that is not enough, we have a lasting humanitarian ceasefire.” In view of what is happening in Gaza, he feels a sense of “frustration and injustice.” Moreover, “the international community, especially the EU, must recognize the State of Palestine once and for all.”
About a month ago, Sánchez had already called for a ceasefire (see video above). Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo made similar comments. “The killing of civilians must stop now (…) The destruction of the Gaza Strip is unacceptable.”
Israel: “Provide a tailwind for terror”
The criticism from the two prime ministers caused outrage among the Israeli government. “We condemn the lying claims of the Prime Ministers of Spain and Belgium that they support terrorism,” Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said. Israel adheres to international law and fights a murderous terrorist organization.
